“The Lib Dems have let students down. In my world a pledge means a solemn and binding promise and that’s why I can’t find words to describe the contempt I felt when I discovered that at the very same time as LibDem leaders and candidates were touring campuses, signing their pledges, posing for photographs and asking students to help deliver their leaflets, Danny Alexander was in his lair producing a report on scrapping not fees but scrapping the pledge."

Selly Oak MP Steve McCabe has backed a national campaign to encourage people to use their local pharmacy by visiting King's Pharmacy on the Pershore Road South in his constituency.

The campaign aims to highlight services under used services that are frequently available at local pharmacies. Free services include health checks, Medicine Use Reviews, minor ailment advice and smoking cessation services. Private services include allergy screening and Chlamydia testing and treatment.

West Midlands Police fear that up to 800 staff – including 400 officers – will be lost within 5 months rising to 2,200 staff by 2015. That would mean more than 40 officers in each parliamentary constituency.

The Tories are saying that these cuts can be met by efficiency savings. But the bottom line is that there will be fewer police. That means fewer officers to respond to 999 calls, investigate burglaries and walk the beat.
