This week Birmingham Labour MPs wrote to the Chancellor of the Exchequer, Phillip Hammond MP, to ask that he review the Government’s policy on the State Pension age for 2.6 million women nationwide. 37,000 women across Birmingham have suffered greatly from the 1995 and 2011 Pension Acts that increased the State Pension Age for women born in the 1950’s.

The MPs have asked the Government to provide transitional state pension arrangements for the women affected.

Steve McCabe MP said:

The Chancellor announced tax increases for self-employed people from next April, which will see nearly 2.5 million people pay £240 a year more in national insurance contributions. A fifth of people who are self-employed have their incomes topped up by tax credits, this tax rise will hit hard-working people already struggling to make ends meet.

The Chancellor also announced £66m per year for social care for 3 years but all the experts say we need £1.9Bn now to head off a crisis.

Steve McCabe MP is asking the Government why there is no money to save Baverstock Academy in Druids Heath despite announcing that over £320 million worth of funding will be available for new grammar schools in the budget.

The announcement was made ahead of tomorrow's budget where the Chancellor is expected to confirm funding of £320million for new free and grammar schools and £216million to refurbish existing schools.
