Steve McCabe MP, Birmingham Selly Oak, will continue his fight to protect family homes in Selly Oak despite a poor response from the government.

He has expressed his anger at the government’s behaviour and poor response to his Protection of Family Homes (Enforcement and Permitted Development) Bill. It failed to progress beyond Second Reading because of the behaviour of Tory MPs who have pushed it to the back of the queue.

This week Birmingham Labour MPs wrote to the Chancellor of the Exchequer, Phillip Hammond MP, to ask that he review the Government’s policy on the State Pension age for 2.6 million women nationwide. 37,000 women across Birmingham have suffered greatly from the 1995 and 2011 Pension Acts that increased the State Pension Age for women born in the 1950’s.

The MPs have asked the Government to provide transitional state pension arrangements for the women affected.
