Steve McCabe MP opposes National Express’s plans to withdraw 27 Bus

Steve has written to Managing Director of National Express UK Bus, Mr Paul Thomas, calling for plans to scrap the 27 bus route to be abandoned.

Steve McCabe wrote to Mr Thomas as part of an ongoing consultation into bus routes in South Birmingham. Many of Mr McCabe’s constituents will be widely affected by the withdrawal of the 27 bus, including those trying to access the Queen Elizabeth Hospital and the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital in Northfield, local schools, Bournville train station and other local facilities.

Mr McCabe also highlighted concerns surrounding the environmental implications of withdrawing the 27 bus, the potential impact for the elderly and those living with disabilities and implications for local businesses.

A petition calling for the 27 bus to be saved has been signed by nearly 3000 people and with the consultation ending on 21 August 2017, Mr McCabe is urging constituents to take part in the consultation and have their say.

Steve McCabe said:

“I have been contacted by many concerned constituents regarding National Express West Midlands’ proposals. People are worried about accessing many vital local services and simply carrying out day-to-day activities, like going to the shops, without the 27 bus. I am also concerned that many families will have selected secondary schools on the basis of public transport routes and the withdrawal of this service will make it much harder for children to get to school on time or at all. I am asking National Express West Midlands to listen to my constituents and rethink their proposals.”
