Birmingham WASPI women come to Parliament

Members of the Birmingham WASPI group joined thousands of other women on budget day to protest about changes to the state pension age for women born in the 1950’s.

This week Birmingham Labour MPs wrote to the Chancellor of the Exchequer, Phillip Hammond MP, to ask that he review the Government’s policy on the State Pension age for 2.6 million women nationwide. 37,000 women across Birmingham have suffered greatly from the 1995 and 2011 Pension Acts that increased the State Pension Age for women born in the 1950’s.

The MPs have asked the Government to provide transitional state pension arrangements for the women affected.

Steve McCabe MP said:

“It is disgraceful that the Chancellor totally ignored women affected by changes to the state pension age in his Budget, the Government ought to do the right thing and introduce fair transitional arrangements for the women affected.”
