Hundreds of Selly Oak constituents back local MP calling for urgent review of the National Funding Formula for schools which will see Birmingham lose £20million
Steve McCabe MP, is asking constituents to sign a letter to Secretary of State for Education Justine Greening calling for a review of the Government’s proposed National Funding Formula for schools, which will see local schools face big cuts to their budgets.
Hundreds of constituents have already signed, you can add you name to Steve’s letter by clicking here.
The Government’s proposals will see schools in Birmingham lose over £20 million from their budgets by 2019 and 35 out of 37 schools in Selly Oak will lose out under the plans. If you would like to see whether your local school will be affected by the Government’s cuts click here.
Steve McCabe said:
“The Government says their new funding formula for schools if fair, but I don’t see how taking money away from our schools and children’s futures is fair at all. Head teachers and school Governors are telling me they simply won’t be able to cope with these cuts and they are very concerned about their ability to maintain teaching quality, special educational needs provision and keep class sizes down.
“I’m writing to Education Secretary to ask that she urgently review the plans and I’m asking my constituents to add their name to my letter so we can send the Government a clear message that there is nothing fair about cutting money from our schools.”
