Local MP getting ready for the big Jump

Local MP, Steve McCabe paid a visit to Acorns Children’s Hospice ahead of his big charity sky dive at the end on the month.

On April 29 Steve will be jumping out of a plane from 15,000 ft to raise as much money as possible for Acorns and Macmillan Cancer Support. Steve has already raised over £1900 but with under a week to go is hoping to watch that figure grow as more people donate.

Steve met with Acorns Chief Executive, Toby Porter at the Charity’s hospice in Selly Oak, Birmingham, to meet staff, volunteers and families. Steve is a longstanding supporter of Acorns, a charity which has been providing care for children and support for their families in the Midlands for nearly 30 years.

Earlier this year he wrote to NHS England urging them to extend their funding for the Children’s Hospice Grant, a key source of funding for Acorns and other Hospices across the country.

Steve McCabe MP said:

“I’ve been involved with Acorns for a while and I’ve seen first-hand the remarkable work they carry out at their Selly Oak Hospice. I’m always inspired by the young people I meet and the positive and uplifting atmosphere which the Hospice nurtures.

“I’m not quite sure how I got roped into jumping out of a plane but as the big day draws closer there will be no backing out now. I’m absolutely clear I’m jumping for two incredibly worthy causes and I urge people to dig deep and help me.”

Toby Porter, Acorns Chief Executive, said:

“Jumping out of a plane is not for everyone, but is typical of Steve’s commitment to Acorns! We are extremely grateful for his support and wish him the very best of luck on the day. Acorns relies on local community fundraising for the bulk of the nearly £10 million per year it costs to provide our vital care so we hope Steve’s jump inspires others to take up our cause.”
