Steve McCabe MP for Birmingham, Selly Oak has joined with campaigners and volunteers from leading charity Alzheimer’s Society for the launch of their new campaign ‘Fix Dementia Care’ which calls for improvements in hospital care for people living with dementia.


Steve McCabe MP showed his support for heart patients and their families by joining the British Heart Foundation (BHF) and other cardiovascular organisations to hear how they are helping to save and improve the lives of the millions of people affected by cardiovascular disease in the UK.


The Rea Catchment Partnership is a group that has been formed to explore funding opportunities to refuce flood risk and deliver environmental improvements across the River Rea.


Steve McCabe MP is backing Marie Curie’s campaign to provide the right to palliative care for those who need it.

Steve has pledged support to the campaign which calls on the NHS and its partners to support 110,000 people across the UK each year who miss out on palliative care because their needs are not recognised and they are not referred to the right services.

Figures show construction and manufacturing output fell while the service sector, the biggest part of the UK economy, grew.

Figures released today from the Office for National Statistics and House of Commons Library show Selly Oak constituency is now in the top 14% of constituencies for unemployment across the whole country.

Statistics show that 4.1% of people eligible for work in Selly Oak constituency are claiming JSA or Universal Credit, this is compared to just 2.5% across the country.

Steve McCabe has met with Tesco representatives to discuss the future of the proposed Stirchley super-store.


Tesco have told Steve that the continuing financial difficulties affecting the company means that they are unable to give a start date for the store this year but are still fully committed to the project. 



This Friday 11 September, Maypole Youth Centre are hosting a careers fair at All Saints Church Centre, Kings Heath. Drop in between 2-4pm.


The careers fair is for 16 – 19 year olds and people up to 25 years old with learning or physical difficulties and is a chance to talk about getting into work or training.


July is Scam Awareness Month. Led by Citizens Advice and Trading Standards the campaign is about helping consumers stay alert and confident, and encouraging us all to be ready, willing and able to spot scams.

Each year more than three million people in the UK fall victim to scams - on their doorstep, by phone, through the post and increasingly, online. Overall reports on frauds and scams to the Citizens Advice Consumer Service are up 104 per cent from last year.

Steve McCabe MP has committed to protect bees in the UK, speaking out against proposed government plans to temporarily lift a ban on bee-harming pesticides.

Steve joined campaigners to voice their concern as government ministers look at requests to let dangerous pesticides - known as neonicotinoids - back into UK soil this autumn, despite clear evidence of how much damage they do to our bees.
