Steve McCabe MP has pledged his support to carers across Birmingham as part of the national Carers Week 2015 awareness campaign, which runs from 8-14th June.

 

There are 6.5 million people in the UK who care for a partner, relative or friend. In Birmingham Selly Oak Constituency there are 10,246 carers.

 

 

Steve McCabe said:

“Under David Cameron we have seen the lowest level of housebuilding in peacetime Britain since the 1920s. This cannot carry on which is why a Labour Government will build 200,000 new homes every year by 2020.

 

 

Luke is a local Kings Heath boy and former pupil at Woodthorpe Juniors and Wheelers Lane Boys School. He left school at 16 and went to join the RAF, after completing his services he went on to study at Aston University and is currently completing his PhD at the University of Birmingham.

 

 

Steve McCabe recently wrote to the Chief Executive of Birmingham City Council to ask what plans they had to apply for money from the Department for Communities and Local Government’s Planning Enforcement Fund to help with costs associated with enforcement cases where someone as breached planning rules.

The BBC’s Charter is up for renewal next year.

 

Recently Steve McCabe MP has spoken out against the BBC’s lack of investment in the Midlands as research from the Campaign for Regional Broadcasting Midlands revealed that although the Midlands licence fee payers contributed £942 million to the BBC last year only £80 million was actually invested in the region.

Steve McCabe voted to revoke the government’s ‘Firefighter’s Pension Regulations’ after he joined several other Labour front benchers in signing an Early Day Motion to secure a Parliamentary Debate on the issue. However Conservatives and Liberal Democrats pushed through the measure which many have branded as unworkable and unfair.

Local MP, Steve McCabe, Birmingham Selly Oak faced a grilling from Year 6 students at Raddlebarn Primary School.

The students invited Steve to take part in their very own ‘question time’ style debate ahead of their exciting school trip to Westminster later on in the year. Steve was asked about his views on a range of important issues including the environment, welfare, discrimination, jobs, and crime as well as his role as the local MP.

Plans to kick start the Selly Oak Hospital Site development are underway after confirmation that the site has been sold to two developers; Persimmon and Charles Church. Steve McCabe MP met with project managers and the University Hospital Birmingham Trust to find out the latest developments on the project and to push for jobs for local people on the site.

Steve McCabe, Labour’s Shadow Minister for Children and Families and MP for Birmingham Selly Oak, is backing the NSPCC’s new ‘Share Aware’ campaign which aims to get families talking about staying safe online.
