It's a matter of time before there is a serious collision near Birmingham Council's Lifford Lane Depot in Kings Norton, warn local MPs.  Richard Burden MP (Northfield) and Steve McCabe MP (Selly Oak) are calling for urgent action by the City Council to resolve multiple hazards associated with traffic trying to gain access to and from the site.

The Office for National Statistics today released the latest unemployment figures which reveal unemployment nationally has fallen from 6.9% to 6.8% in the three months to March.

Steve McCabe MP hosted one of his regular Report Back meetings with constituents at Warstock Community Centre on Thursday 1 May 2014.

David Blunkett MP today published his report ‘Review of education structures, functions and the raising of standards for all: Putting students and parents first’ which sets out Labour’s plans to devolve more responsibilities and oversight of school standards to local school commissioners and away from Whitehall.

Please note that Steve McCabe’s advice centre due to be held on Saturday 3 May will not be at Christ Church, 953 Pershore Road. Instead it will be held for this week only at Selly Park Baptist Church 1042 Pershore Road, this is just down the road.

The fall in the unemployment rate to 6.9% for the UK as a whole is positive but look a little deeper and the story isn’t so rosy in all parts of the country. Unemployment actually rose in the West Midlands to 8.2% and the number of people claiming Job Seekers Allowance in Birmingham Selly Oak constituency still remains in the top 20% of the country.

With the upcoming centenary of the UK entering the First World War, Steve McCabe MP is urging his constituents to consider applying to the Heritage Lottery Fund for community projects to learn more about the First World War.

The Bedroom tax affects almost 50,000 people in the West Midlands and the Government’s own impact assessment states that two thirds of those affected have a disability.

Since David Cameron’s government introduced the Bedroom Tax low-income households have been forced to find, on average an extra £720 a year. According to the National Housing Federation two thirds of households hit by the Bedroom Tax cannot find the money to pay their rents and one in seven are at risk of eviction.
