Steve McCabe MP was thrilled to present Madison Poolton, winner of his Parliamentary Christmas card competition with a family ticket to watch the rags to riches tale of Dick Whittington at the Hippodrome.  

Steve runs an annual Christmas card competition with local schools and once again was faced with the difficult task of picking a winner out of hundreds of creative and imaginative designs from pupils across Selly Oak constituency.

Steve has been working with the Save Baverstock Group, made up of parents and local residents, to fight for the school’s future. Together they have collected over 1,500 signatures all calling for the Government to save the school.

 

 

Steve McCabe called for the debate after being contacted by constituents who have had distressing experiences trying to get fertility treatment through the NHS.

 

In the last year, three clinical commissioning groups (South Norfolk, Mid-Essex CCG and North East)have already decommissioned their assisted conception services as a cost saving measure and now a further twenty-six are either considering reducing provision or decommissioning their assisted conception services entirely.

 

 

Birmingham Labour MPs have warned the Government about their catastrophic funding plans for Birmingham which will result in devastating cuts to children’s centres, local libraries, leisure centres and services for the elderly.

 

With winter upon us, Steve McCabe MP, Birmingham Selly Oak has called on his constituents to ensure they are taking advantage of free help and support with energy bills.

Winter can be a challenging time for households and many people may be concerned about their winter energy bill.  Energy suppliers including British Gas have told Steve that help is available and customers should customers to get in touch so we can offer them advice and support. 

Steve McCabe MP’s Protection of Family Homes Private Members Bill was stopped short last week during its Second Reading. Steve’s Bill was number 4 on the order paper but it was only debated for very briefly and was adjourned until January.

 

Steve McCabe MP said:

“I was disappointed that my Bill didn’t receive its Second Reading last week but I will be back in the New Year to have another go.

 

Steve McCabe MP has tabled an Early Day Motion (EDM) calling for the Government to act quickly and stop Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs) across England from reducing or entirely decommissioning their assisted conception services.

Speaking at Treasury Questions today, Tuesday 29 November, Steve McCabe MP asked the Treasury Minister why half of the money for England announced in the Autumn Statement last week is allocated to projects in London and the South East, despite the fact there will be a £50 million shortfall in NHS funding by 2017 and a huge £130 million shortfall for Social Care by 2020 in Birmingham.

 

 

Steve’s Private Member's Bill, aimed at clamping down on rogue landlords and developers, was talked out of time by local government minister Marcus Jones during its second reading stage on 28 October 2016. But Steve won’t give up will be trying to push the Bill through Parliament this Friday. As a fall-back position, Steve is also in talks with colleagues in the House of Lords to see if key parts of the Bill could be added to the Neighbourhood Planning Bill currently going through Parliament.

 

Steve has welcomed the abolition of letting fees which is a Labour policy that the Chancellor and Prime Minister have previously voted against but says allowing those on Universal Credit to keep an extra 2p in the £ on their earnings will have an almost negligible impact.
